My Final Blog

I believe that I am a synthesizing mind. A majority of the information used to create this blog was taken from what I have learned from watching the show "FlashForward." Actually, I'm not sure where I would have gone with this blog if it were not for ABC's production. Another great reference was the priest's homily at mass. It was great that I could show that the outside world has the same thoughts goign through their minds.
Three things that I exemplified in this blog were exhibiting curiosity, ask provocative questions, and experiment with new ideas. My curiosity was off the charts about this topic. Ever since I got hooked on FlashForward, my mind has been pondering the thought of knowing my future. I'm not sure this blog could have been what it is without the questions that I asked. I believe all questions presented were ones that made people think hard for their answer. The third thing I exemplified was experimenting with new ideas. I have never really thought about the future and wondering if I would like to know it or not. Things can make you think from the most random places in life.
The few times that I did think about the future, I always thought that I would be better off if I knew what were to happen in the upcoming days. I was surprised that, after watching the show and writing this blog, that I discovered the I would rather not know the future. Life loves to give you surprises, and this was one of them. I learned that I would like my life a whole lot more if I did not know my future beforehand. This is just one of the many lessons life throws at you at the most unexpected times.

The Final Day

After this long and interesting journey, I have finally made my decision after giving it much thought. I would not want to know my future. Why? What fun would life be if I knew what was going to happen every single day? The majority of life's fun is experiencing the unexpected and learning from different encounters. As I can see from my poll (well, the four that voted), I make the answer "yes" the winner. I love running into surprises. How would I run into these surprises if I knew they were coming? Exactly. Surprises would not exist. The word may not even exist anymore.

Some would do anything and everything to make sure that what they saw will come true. Others, however, are doing anythign and everything to make sure that they change what they saw. FlashForward is also a show that keeps you on your toes at all times with extreme suspense. Overall, it is possibly one of the greatest shows ever produced by mankind.

Real Life Interaction

While sitting at Mother's Day Mass this past weekend, when the homily had just begun, I was acting just like I normally do - tired and daydreaming. But then the priest started talking about something that caught my attention. The first line of his homily was, "How much better off would we be if we knew what was going to happen before it happened?" How could I ask for a better blog topic? Everyone thinks about their future. "Man if only I would've known that my car was going to break down - I wouldn't have volunteered to drive everyone to school." What would life be like if we were to know every detail that was going to happen the next day? Would we let these things happen? Even a priest adresses this topic in his homily, obviously it is an often-thought question. If you think you are the only one who ponders the thought of wanting to know the future or not, you are not alone. I repeat - you are not alone.

The Real Background

Some of you may be wondering, "What in the world is this kid talking about?" Well I promise I am not making these scenarios up. The real influence, as some of you may know, is the hit television series FlashForward. It is amazing to see the different perspectives portrayed in the broadcast, for each side is presented. Whether or not one may want to know their future, not want to know their future, or just happen to wonder about the future, there are different characters for every feeling. I, myself, would not want to know the future. How can I live my life knowing what is going to happen next? That is the beauty in life - encountering the unexpected and taking what life gives you and making the most of it. If I knew my future, I would worry every single day if what I was doing would lead to what I saw in my image. I believe I am better off not knowing because I love to learn and experience new things each and every day.

Day 4

After the day of the blackout, you question why everyone is freaking out about these images they had. What images are they talking about? To you, it was just a blackout - a momentarily lapse of consciousness. Is it true that everyone in the world saw something with they lost conscious? Why didn't you? After much debate on whether or not this meant something - whether you are just a unique individual who just happened not to see anything - you decide to find answers. How would you feel if everyone in society was experiencing something, going through the same situation, and you were left out. It kind of feels like they are not including you in a special activity. You finally decide, unfortunately, that the real reason you did not see anything happening to you on that day in the future is because you will not be here on that day. This, my friends, is a reason one may not want to find out their future.
